PLANES COLLIDE IN AIR
SIX PERSONS LOSE LIVES MACHINES PREPARING TO LAND AT MASCOT (Received November 19, 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 19. Two aeroplanes collided at a height of 500 feet near the Mascot aerodrome this morning. The occupants of both machines, four men and two women, were killed. The. victims were:— John Jones, who was the pilot of a Monospar machine. ' William Silversten, aged 25 Mrs Monica Hatswell, aged 44. Edith Richardson, aged 19. ' . James Cicutti, aged 30, pilot of a Gipsy Moth. Frederick Davidson, aged 25, a fellowpassenger of .Cicutti. Both machines were preparing to land at Mascot and were following the course of Cook’s river when the collision occurred. ■ , The Monospar, with its four occupants, fell like a rocket into Cooks river. There was considerable trouble in recovering the wrecked and submerged machine and establishing the identity of the victims, all of whom were badly injured. . The Gipsy Moth, with one wing stripped crashed on the Bonnie Doon golf course in the presence of golfers, who rushed to the scene and dragged the occupants , out, but they , were beyond 81 Both aeroplanes were engaged in pleasure flights.
