GIRL GUIDES’ SPORTS
RALLY AT RUGBY PARK BIG ENTRIES .IN ALL S EVENTS Big entries in all events and keen competition were features of the sports rally held at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon by the Southland Girl Guides’ Association. A big programme of events was put through and many novel and amusing items were seen. There was a big attendance of Guides, but the public support was less than such a rally deserved. Most points for the Watson Cup were gained by the St. Andrew’s company with 50 , points. The cup was presented to the company at the end of the afternoon by Mrs C. E. Watts, president of the Invercargill Association. High School and St.. John’s were second equal with 471 points. The Gilbertson Scroll, presented for provincial competition for an exhibition of tenderfoot and second-class Guide work, was presented to the St. John’s Company by Mrs R. Burns Watson, president of the Southland Provincial Association. The All Saints Company was second and High School was third. The other companies were well behind in the total of points for the day. Results were as follows:— 75 YARDS JUNIOR.—N. Pedlar (St. John’s) 1, D. Sherlock (St. Paul’s) 2, N. Davenport (St. John’s) 3. 100 YARDS SENIOR.—M. McNaughton (High School) 1, M. Robertson (First Church) 2, U. Jenkin (St. John) 3. THREE-LEGGED RACE.—M. McNaughton and E. Walker (High School) 1, C. Gudgeon and T. Morris (St. John’s) 2, A. Fredric and M. Traill (High School) and N. Leggett and N. Clark (St. John’s) equal 3. BLOCK-ON-HEAD RACE.—E. Walker (High School) 1, L. McDermott (St. Andrew’s) 2, S. Mitchell (All Saints) >. POTATO RACE.—M.
