BRADSHAW-HICKS On Saturday a quiet wedding was solemnized at the Presbyterian Manse, Earnslaw street, Invercargill, between Elza May, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Hicks, Halfmoon Bay, Stewart Island, and Kenneth Edward _ J eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. Bradshaw, Janet street, InvercargiU. The bride wore a jade-green model frock with brown hat, shoes and accessories to match. , Miss Mabel Silvester, fnend of tlje bride, was bridesmaid, and she wore a navy moss crepe frock with pmk trimmings and a navy hat, shoes and accessories. > . . .t,„ Mr Bruce Neilson, cousin of tne bridegroom was best man. , Mr and Mrs Kenneth Bradshaws future home will be at Port Pegasus. Before their marriage they . were entertained at a gift evening in the Half Moon Bay hall by the residents of the island. The wedding took place at First Presbyterian Church recently, of Alice Joy, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. R. McNee, Elies road, to Gordon Edie, third son of Mr and Mrs W. C. Ferguson, Nelson street. .The Rev. J. A. Thomson performed the ceremony and Mrs Manning played the organ. During the signing of the register, Miss S. Ashley sang a solo. The church was decorated with cherry blossom and tulips by friends of the bride. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory satin made on Empire lines. The gathered bodice was finished at the neck with a spray and the long sleeves were gathered on the shoulders and finished with a row of small buttons at the wrist. The embroidered veil (lent by a friend) fell from the coronet of orange blossoms and she carried a sheaf of lilies and white roses. The bridesmaids were Miss Esma McNeil, cousin of the bride, and Miss Eva Cundall. They wore twin frocks of cherry blossom taffetas with gathered bodices and heart shaped neck lines and full flared skirts. They wore silver Juliet caps finished with sprays and silver shoes. Each wore a gold bangle —the gift of the bridegroom. They carried shower bouquets of tulips, abutilons and-carnations in cherry blossom tonings. Mr James Ferguson, brother of the, bridegroom was best man, and Mr William McNee was groomsman. Mr S. Ferguson and Mr C. McNee were ushers.

The reception was held at Elmwood Garden, where the bride’s mother received the guests. She wore a rust frock under a musquash coat. The bridegroom’s mother wore a floral frock under a fur trimmed brown coat. For travelling the bride wore a striped American model frock under a musquash coat, with brown accessories. SMITH—STAUNTON The wedding took place at St. Mary’s Basilica on Thursday of Bridget Theresa, eldest daughter of Mrs A. Staunton, Riverton, and the late Mr L. Staunton to Theodore Patrick, eldest son of Mr and Mrs T. Smith, of Orepuki. The Rev. Father Murphy, cousin of the bride, performed the ceremony and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Miss R. Shepherd played the organ. The bride who was given away by her uncle Mr J. Finn, wore a frock of cream brocade with embossed leaf design, cut on classical lines. The skirt formed a long train, and the back was finished with a row of buttons to the waist. She wore a tulle veil falling from a coronet of orange blor-oms and carried a bouquet of white roses and lilies. The, bridesmaid was Miss Monica Staunton, sister of the bride. She wore a frock of Marina taffetas relieved with touches of clover. Her tulle shoulder veil was caught in front by a spray of clover flowers, and she carried a sheaf of tulips to tone. Mr T. Smith, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. The reception was held at Elmwood Garden where the bride's mother received the guests. She wore a tailored black costume and hat, and a shoulder spray of white roses. She was assisted by Mrs Smith, who wore a navy pin striped costume and hat to match. She wore a shoulder spray of spring flowers. For travelling the bride wore a navy costume and fur, with hat and accessories to match.

BASKETBALL CLUB HOLDS ENTERTAINMENT The Spar Bush Basketball Club held another of its successful Saturday night dances. Mr G. McCullough was master of ceremonies. Among those present were Misses K. KITCHEN EVENING AT DIPTON

MRS WIXON ENTERTAINED /

The residents of Dipton recently entertained Mrs J. Wixon (nee Gerrard) at a kitchen evening in the Public Hall. There was a good attendance of friends. Music for the dance was supplied by Mr R. Hazlett, piano-accordion, extras being played by Misses G. Leith and R. Mitchell. Mr G. Leith was master of ceremonies. During supper Mr Johnstone Hall congratulated the young couple and extended best wishes for their future happiness. On behalf of those present Mr Hall spoke of the popularity of Mrs Wixon and of the manner in which she had assisted in various organizations in the district, and asked her to accept a table of parcels. Miss B. Taylor, speaking on behalf of the Dipton Hockey Club, referred to the loss the club had sustained, through the departure of Mrs Wixon from the district, and presented her with a floating bowl complete with centre piece. Mr Wixon replied.

OTAUTAU Mr and Mrs W. J. Irwin are spending a holiday at Rangiora and Christchurch. Mr and Mrs F. Thomson leave this week for Wellington for the centenary celebrations. Mrs Harold Smyth, Dunedin, has been the guest of Mr and Mrs H. Smyth, Main street. Mrs Cavanagh has been visiting Mr and Mrs W. Owen. Mr and Mrs F. Insall are spending a holiday in Christchurch. Mrs Wallace Chamberlain was the guest of Mr and Mrs W. Ledingham last week. Mrs W. G. Melton leaves this week to spend a few days in Riverton. Miss Reay Campbell is spending a holiday in Wellington. Mr and Mrs A. C. White leave on Wednesday for Ashburton, Greymouth and the West Coast.

WINTON

Mr and Mrs W. G. Clark are on holiday in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs W. C. Cleine, of Invercargill, spent the week-end with Mrs C. Baird, Mary street. Mrs A. Roger, of Crookston, is the guest of Mrs P. Boylen, Great North road.

Mrs H. A. Pierce, Park street, is visiting Christchurch for the races. Miss Betty Mitchell, of Orepuki, spent the week-end with Mrs C. D. Moore, East Winton.

Miss L. Barrett, of Invercargill, was the week-end guest of Mrs W. Hamilton, Park street. Mr and Mrs J. R. Todd are visitors to Christchurch for the races. Mr and Mrs J. Chalmers and their family, of Bluff, were the guests of Mrs P. Boylen, Great North road, for the week-end.

WOODLANDS

Mrs D. Caldwell, Menzies Ferry, is the guest of her sister, Mrs W. Henderson.

Miss K. Leonard, Roslyn Bush, is staying with her sister-in-law, Mrs R. Leonard.

Mrs Henry and Mrs C. Reid, Invercargill, visited Mrs A. Frew, during the week.
