ANGLING CLUB FAIRLY QUIET YEAR REPORTED The annual meeting of the Wyndham Angling Club was held on Saturday evening, when Mr J. Mitchell .presided over a small attendance. The annual report was as follows: “The committee regrets having to record a fairly quiet year in club activities. There were only two competitions held during the season, and unless something is done to secure more enthusiasm and competitors in the club, things will not flourish. The quadrangular competition was this year controlled by the club and was a good success. Our congratulations go to the Mataura Club, who won by a good margin. “Our. thanks are again due to the donors of trophies and special prizes, these being trophies from Mr M. Tangney, United Trading Company, Mr W. Sinclair and Mr H. Heath.

.“The season, generally, was not a good one from an angling point of view. Results of the two competitions were as follows: First competition, A. Gregory 1, G. Johnstone 2, E. Mitchell 3. Second competition, S. Shanks 1, A. Gregory 2, G. Johnstone 3. The balance-sheet showed a profit of £B/11/1 on the year’s workings. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said he wished to congratulate the club on its good financial position, especially as the quadrangular competition had cost the club about £ll. He wished to thank those who had attended to the arranging of the competitions, and also the members who had done such good work in organizing the competition in aid of the club’s funds. He did not know what the future held for but during the last war the competitions had been used for patriotic purposes, the clubs being one of the first in New Zealand to apply for, and be granted, the right to sell fish. The motion was seconded by Mr E. A. Pankhurst and carried unanimously. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr R. K. Bain; vicepresidents, Messrs j. E. Mitchell and A. Gregory; joint secretaries, Messrs W. Sinclair and H. Heath; committee, Messrs G. Boyne, G. Johnstone, W. A. Leitch, S. Shanks and E. Mitchell; auditor, Mr A. A. Wilson; handicapper, Mr J. E. Mitchell.

The secretary’s action in supporting the Otago Society in its appeal against the Government taking control of all acclimatization societies was approved. A social hour was held after the meeting when the trophies won during the year were presented and a number of toasts was honoured. PLUNKET SOCIETY The monthly meeting of the committee of the Wyndham sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Rest Room, there being present: Mesdames R. McLellan (president), W. Frame, A. Young, W. Milne, E. A. Pankhurst,’ D. Macpherson, J. Young, R. J. Pauli and C. S. Gordon (secretary). The sum of £1 was sent to the Sir Truby King Memorial Fund. Arrangements for the running of a rest room at the Gore Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Show on December 9 were completed. It was decided to again sell boiling water for the use of picnickers that day.
