Mr T. Golden, chairman of the Southland Hospital Board, Mr A. M. Williams, secretary, and Mr A. C, Ford, the board’s architect, will leave on Friday for Wellington to confer with officials 'of the Health Department on the amended plans for the repairs to the Southland Hospital at Kew. Mr G. K. Ryder, manager of the Bank of Australasia, Invercargill, returned by last night’s express from a brief business visit to Australia, At a meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery last night it was unanimously decided to nominate the Rev, G. H. Jupp as moderator-designate of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church.—Press, Association.
Captajn I. O, Manson, a member of the town clerk’s staff, who leaves this morning for the Burnham military camp, was bidden farewell yesterday afternoon, On behalf of the staff, the town clerk (Mr W. F, Sturmanj presented Captain Manson with an inscribed cigarette case and a wallet and expressed the hope that it would not be' long before he returned, The accountant (Mr J- H. Leigh) also spoke and Captain Manson repljed,
Dr R. S. Stewgrt, assistant honorary surgeon at the Qpre hospital, who is now serving with the military forces, has been granted leave of absence for the duration pf the war by the Southland Hospital Board. Mr S. Gregg arrived in Invercargill by the express last night from Christchurch on holiday. Mr L. H. Pattpn, house steward af the New Plymouth Hospital, has been appointed fo a similar position at the Southland Hospital. There were 35 applications.
Mr J. B, Courtis hag been advised qf his selgetion for training as a pilot jn the Royal New Zealand Air Force and he leaves Invercargill at the end of next week for the training school at Wereroa. As a member of the Civil Reserve of Pilots, Mt Courtis has had preliminary training with the Souths land Aero Club.
Mr J. F. Carrick has received notice of his selection for training as a pilot in tfie Royal New Zealand Air Force pt Wereroa. Mr Carrick has been flying since 1933 when he was awarded a Sports Trust' Flying Scholarship while attending the Southland Technical College- In 1937 he was chosen for the Civil Reserve of Pilots, He qualified for his A licence when only 17 years of age, and at that time was probably the youngest pilot in New Zealand. The death jf Mr J. W. Cook, a member of the staff of the Works Department pf the Invercargill City Council, was referred tq by the Mayor (Mr J. R. Hanan) at the meeting of the council last evening. A resolution of sympathy with his relations was carried.
