BASKETBALL CLUB’S VICTORY

There was a large attendance at the victory ball held in Tuatapere by the Pa Tua Basketball Club to celebrate winning the Rillstone Cup, which is for competition among A grade teams in the Waiau Association,

Mr J. A. Forde, president of the association, congratulated the team on its performance during the year and introduced the donor of the cup, Mrs A, Rillstone, who has been interested in basketball since it was started in this district five or six years ago. Mrs Rillstone then presented the cup to the team and also added her congratulations. Miss B. McKay, captain, accepted the cup and replied on behalf of the team.

Miss E. McPherson then made a presentation to Miss Anna Murphy, one of the members of the team, who has now left the district. She said her friends were sorry to lose Miss Murphy but hoped that at some future date her services would again be available. Miss Murphy replied, thanking her team mates f6r their remarks and good wishes.

During the evening novelty dances were won by the following: Mystery waltz, Mr and Mrs F. Kilkelly; lucky spot, Mr and Mrs R. Dickson. Extras were played by Mrs Kilkelly and Mr Mempes, and Messrs A.
