SAFETY OF CONVOYS ENSURED (British Official Wireless) (Received October 15, 9.30 p.m.) RUGBY, October 14. According to a statement issued by the Air Ministry, the poor flying conditions of the past week have caused only slight interruption to convoy work by the reconnaissance aircraft of the coastal command.
Aircraft guarding convoys have been withdrawn only when flying is impossible through bad; visibility and rain. Storms have caused aircraft to fly, at times, close above the waves. Under the protection of the air, the anti-submarine patrols and naval escorts, thousands of tons of vital supplies have been shipped safely to Britain. All convoys arriving or leaving now receive air protection, which may extend hundreds of miles out to sea.
POLITICAL ENDS OF WAR DISSOCIATING GERMANS FROM GOVERNMENT (Received October 15, 10.5 p.m.) PARIS, October 14. The Exchange Telegraph agency quotes M. Henri Bidou, the military expert of the Paris newspaper Intransigeant, as stating that war methods must conform with the political ends of war. Replying to those who are saying that this is funny war he writes: “It is a question of dissociating the German people from the Government, which through its iniquities, its tricks and its abuse of power has become a plague for the whole of Europe. “The first thing is to enlighten the German people. The action of British airmen in scattering millions of tracts in Germany is an excellent war operation.”
