THERE are vacancies in the Mental Hospitals Department for female Nurses at the Institutions situated at Auckland, Kingseat, Tokanui, Porirua, Christchurch, Nelson, Hokitika and Seacliff. Anyone interested is invited to communicate by letter to the undermentioned or to call personally at Room 439, Government Life Insurance Building, Wellington. Applicants should be twenty years of age and upwards, but in special cases the age will be reduced to eighteen. The commencing salary is £lO5 per annum with free board and lodging, laundry and uniform, with an increase to £ll5 after one year’s service and to £125 after two years’ service. Under present conditions promotion to higher positions with considerably higher salaries on passing the required Mental Hospitals Nursing Examination is rapid. Accommodation is provided in wellappointed Nurses’ Homes, each Nurse having a single room. There is ample provision for recreation, such as tennis, badminton and hockey. One Month’s holiday on full pay is given at the end of every five months service—every third day is off duty. The Mental Hospitals Service offers a career to suitable persons and may also be regarded as a stepping stone towards training in other branches of the nursing profession.
