MOTORIST SENTENCED FOR INTOXICATION

DUNEDIN, October 12. In tlie Magistrate’s Court, Henry Walton Phillips, described by the police as a man with a substantial and unsavoury list of convictions, including assaulting the police, breaking and entering and dangerous driving, was sentenced to six weeks in gaol for being intoxicated while in charge of a car. His companion, Joseph Sutherland, aged 47, was fined £2 for using obscene language. Phillips violently resisted arrest by a special constable, striking and kicking the inspector before being overpowered.
