TODAY’S TIMARU FIELDS

Wardress In Winning Form TORO KOURA’S CHANCE IN SPRINT (Special to The Times) CHRISTCHURCH, October 13., The South Canterbury Jockey Club’s spring meeting at Washdyke tomorrow promises to be successful in .every way and in view of forthcoming meetings at Trentham and Riccarton the racing will be followed with widespread interest. The track will be in excellent order. The principal event, the Teschemaker Handicap, has drawn an exceptionally strong field of middle distance performers, including seven New Zealand Cup candidates. Thermidor ran a fair race at Wingatui and will be all the better for it. Dictate is certainly in excellent order and his turn to win a good race is overdue. Rabble may not be ready for this company while Monipere would be better suited by a soft track. Queen Dorothy has shown good form of late but the journey may find her out. Swordstick will similarly be troubled and although Spartan can be expected to improve he does not appeal as a stayer. Wardress will probably be in keen demand following her win over nine furlongs at Geraldine. Balmenter was unlucky at Wingatui and if he is well placed early in this he will be a danger at the right end. Of the remainder, Gay Rebel may create a surprise. STRONG SPRINT FIELD Some speedy sprinters will parade for the Flying Handicap and a fast six furlong tussle should be recorded. Haughty Winner will not be favoured by the journey but Silver Streak has still to be reckoned with and it would not be surprising to find him disputing final honours. Toro Koura was on the big side at Wingatui and will be a fitter horse tomorrow. Lady Leigh has. done well since she won on similar going at Geraldine last month and no doubt will be one of the favourites. Density is an interesting acceptor. She has developed into a solid-looking filly and has been sprinting in a brilliant manner. Phenomenal, if reserved, will be prominent for a good way. Such a smart beginner and galloper is liable to upset calculations. . , , _ _ Riding engagements include. —L. J. Ellis.—Wardress, Asia, Chirp, Matunga, Toro Koura; A.
