Last season Lawn Derby won on 4min 21sec, but there was a general let-up of 12 yards this year. Farcical Figures

In discussing the New Brighton Challenge Stakes, which was a falsely-run race, a Christchurch writer comments:— Why train a good three-year-old to race a mile and a-quarter in round about 2min 45sec and then accept a pace that ends up in the farcical figures of 3min 0 2-ssec? And the track was fast!

Unregistered Mares At a meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association Mr S. W. Kelly drew attention to the number of classic horses who were out of unregistered mares. The secretary (Mr W. H. Larcombe) pointed out that the position in regard to unregistered dams was steadily improving. Under the Stud Book regulations the association could register a mare and charge the owner 5/-.
