Grants From Lottery Funds
A motion disapproving of the action of certain organizations connected with the social service work of the diocese in receiving money grants from the proceeds of State lotteries was keenly debated at a sitting of the Auckland Anglican Diocesan Synod. Archbishop Averill said the question was a difficult one. If this money was refused on the ground that it was tainted, should not every contribution received by the church be examined in a similar light? The motion was lost on the voices.—Press Association.
