Fourteen recruits were examined by the Medical Board for the Gore district at Gore yesterday, and of this number eight were passed as fit. Three were classed as temporarily unfit, and three were held over for further examination.. The board expressed its appreciation of the excellent arrangements at the Gore Returned Soldiers’ Association club and the valuable assistance given by the secretary (Mr G. L. Gerken) and other members of the association. WARNING ISSUED FALSE AGE GIVEN BY RECRUITS A serious warning against making false declarations when enlisting in the special force has been issued by the Canterbury Area staff officer, Major H. M. Foster. There have been several cases where men under age have enlisted, giving their age as 21, have been medically examined, and had dental work, carried out before their real age was discovered. It has now been found that at least one youth under 21 has managed to get away to camp with the main draftin this particular instance a North Island camp. Major Foster pointed out that the registration form which all recruits were required to fill in asked certain definite questions. It was essential that great care should be taken in answering these questions. The age limits for the special force were clearly indicated, and to give the wrong date might caught considerable difficulty for the registration office, the man himself, ana, if he was a minor, for his parents. In these cases it was obvious that, in addition to inconvenience to the department, the man had incurred expense which he or his parents would have to meet.
