THE WEATHER
Mainly Fair (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, October 10. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington Light to fresh winds, between north-west and south-west A few showers probable, but weather mainly fair, with moderate temparatures. Seas slight to moderate. The following is the Dominion forecast: Occasional scattered rain in westland and on parts of the east coast south of East Cape; otherwise mainly fair to mild; cool tonight, however, with some frosts inland in the South Island and morning mist or fog on the coast. General Situation. —A weak disturbance is located over the Tasman Sea, ,but pressure is relatively high over the New Zealand area. Winds.—Light to fresh and rather variable, but with westerly directions predominating in the north; a more definite south-westerly change is probable in the south on Thursday. Seas.—New Zealand waters, slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, light to moderate north-westerly winds, turning to south-westerly in the southern portion, seas slight to moderate.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and sunny. In the early afternoon the sun shone quite brightly, but later in the day the warmth of the sunshine was tempered by a fairly strong wind. At one o’clock this morning the weather was mild, calm and clear. The barometer readings for this morning, Tuesday and Monday have been:— This morning (steady) 29.90 in. Tuesday 29.90 in. Monday 30.02 in.
