WATER FOR ARAPUNI ELECTRIC WORKS

PROPOSED FLOODGATES ON WAIKATO RIVER (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 10. Aspects of the proposal to build floodgates across the Waikato River near Lake Taupo with a view to controlling the level of the lake, thus assuring a constant supply of water for the Arapuni hydro-electric Works, _ will be examined next week by the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry), who intends to visit Taupo for that, purpose. It is expected that the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) will also visit Taupo at the same time. The possible effect of the, proposed work on trout fishing, both in Lake Taupo and in the rivers and streams that flow into it, will receive particular attention from Mr Parry.
