INVERCARGILL CLUB’S MEETING ROYAL IRISH WINS MAIN EVENT The Invercargill Whippet Racing Club held a successful meeting at Oteramika road on Saturday. The principal event was won by Royal Irish, racing for the club’s president (Mr John Winders). The same dog was also successful in the Second Class Handicap. Mrs W. Mills’s Whang also annexed a double, being successful in the Improvers’ Handicap and the Maiden Hurdles. Mr H. E. Mills scored his first success with Happy King, who ranks as a full-brother to Whang.

Results were:— Novice Handicap.—H. E. Mills’s Happy King (scr) 1, M. Graeve’s Gay Gordon (scr) 2, E. M. Robinson’s Cliff’s Gift (scr) 3. Also started: H. Wray’s Van Derby (scr), J. Burrowe’s Take Down (scr), C. A. Robinson’s Black Banner (scr). Won by two lengths, half a length between second and third. Improvers’ Handicap.—Mrs W. Mills’s Whang (scr) 1, H. E. Mills’s Happy King (scr) 2, C. A. Robinson’s Black Banner (scr) 3. Also started: M. Graeve’s Gay Gordon, E. M. Robinson’s Cliff’s Gift. Won by a neck, half a length between second and third. Second Class Handicap.—First heat: J. Winders’s Royal Irish (14yds) 1, J. Flynn’s Daring Deed (12Jyds) 2, J. Gellatly’s Brew Nug (14yds) 3. Won by a head each way. Second heat: Mrs W. Mills’s Whang (14yds) 1, J. Gellatly’s Black Nugget (14yds) 2, J. Winders’s Silver Slipper (14yds) 3. Won by half a length, two lengths between second and third. Final: J. Winders’s Royal Irish (14yds) 1, J. Gellatly’s Brew Nug (14yds) 2, J. Flynn’s Daring Deed (12Jyds) 3. Won by a long neck, a head between second and third. Open Handicap.—First heat: J. Winders’s Royal Irish (14yds) 1, Mrs W. Mills’s Trix Be Good (13yds) 2, H. Wray’s Blue Dragoon (12yds) 3. Won by half a length, a head separating second and third. Princess Fairy was first past the post in this race but was disqualified for starting before the gun. Second heat: J. Gellatly’s Brew Nug (14yds) 1, J. Winders’s Hot Air (14yds) 2, J. Flynn’s Daring Deed (13yds) 3. Won by a length, a head between second and third. Final: J. Winders’s Royal Irish (14yds) 1, H. Wray’s Blue Dragoon (12yds) 2, J. Gellatly’s Brew Nug (14yds) 3. Won by half a length, half a length between second and third. Maiden Hurdles Handicap.—Mrs W. Mills’s Whang (20yds) 1, A. Rayner’s Khamesin (20yds) 2. Princess Fairy was scratched in this event.
