Cloudy and Unsettled

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, October 8. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Light to fresh winds, between north-west and south-west. Weather cloudy and unsettled, with occasional rain, but more especially in the west. Temperatures cool to moderate. Sea slight to moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather cloudy, overcast and unsettled generally, with some rain probable in most districts, but more especially those with a westerly aspect and in the far south. Temperatures moderate to mild. General Situation.—There has been a considerable fall in pressure over New Zealand with the approach of an extensive denression from the Tasman. Winds.—Northerlies prevailing at first, but later tending to westerly or, in places, south-westerly, force mainly moderate, fresh but strong in some exposed positions. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough from Kawhia southwards and about Cook Strait, rather rough but decreasing north of East Cape, ilsewhere slight to moderate; Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate fresh winds from a westerly quarter, rather rough seas.

The weather was changeable in Invercargill at the week-end. The sun shone brightly for most of the. day on Saturday and there was almost an absence of wind, Rain fell at intervals yesterdays and the atmosphere, though still mild, was noticeably colder than for the past week.
