BERLIN NOW ON SEVERE RATIONS

Bread And Potatoes Main Items Of Diet

(United Press Association—Telegraph Copyright) (Received October 6, 7.35 p.m.) LONDON, October 6. The food situation in Berlin has definitely become worse in the last fortnight, says the Rotterdam correspondent of The Times. Many important categories cannot be obtained; meat, fish and the principal forms of fat have almost disappeared, and life has to be maintained on a diet consisting of practically nothing but bread and potatoes. Work on the Silesian coal field is held up for want of trucks. It is impossible in Berlin to obtain supplies of coal for domestic heating.
