POLLED HEREFORD BULLS

NEW ZEALAND EXPORTS TO AUSTRALIA One of the best Polled Hereford bulls exported by the stud stock department of Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., last season was a young bull bred by Mr G. F. Moore (Kai Iwi). This animal went to a leading breeder in Queensland and has now justified his selection by winning the championship at the Brisbane Royal Show. The purchaser, being entirely satisfied, has just purchased a further rising two-year-old bull from Mr J. Matthews, the well-known Wairarapa breeder. This bull, which changed hands at a considerable figure, is High Stan II by High Stanway I (imp.) out of Daisy Choice II (imp.). Both the sire and dam were selected by Mr C. E. Robertson during a tour of the North American studs and the dam is reported to be one of the best females to come to the Dominion. This bull, which is of pure imported blood, is an outstanding specimen and should be prominent at the next Brisbane Royal.

Reports just received from Tasmania state that the stud stock from the Dominion arrived in splendid condition. The Polled Hereford bull bred by Mr F. E. Humphries (Ngatapa) is improving every day and his purchaser is delighted with him. The Ayrshire bull from Mr J. Donald is also thriving and several enthusiastic admirers of the breed have been most expressive in their praise. The introduction of this bull from New Zealand will not only be a decided acquisition to his purchaser, but also to the breed generally in Tasmania. The Ryelands bred by Mr T. A. Stephens, of Canterbury, are particularly good sheep, and the new owner intends to show them. All the above stock were exported through Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. Mr Donald, who is one of the few breeders to have imported stock in recent years from Scotland and who has also imported from Canada, has now purchased a bull and heifer from Scotland. These cattle are at present In quarantine in North America, and will be coming on to New Zealand on the first available vessel.
