RUGBY PARK CLUB IN GOOD POSITION SUCCESSFUL SEASON EXPERIENCED Stating that the club was in a very sound financial position, the president (Mr A. W. Jones), at the annual meeting of the Rugby Park Tennis Club last evening, congratulated the club on its successful season. The balance-sheet, he said, showed a credit of £55/7/4. There was a good attendance of members. Mr Jones was chairman. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as fellows:—President, Mr A. W. Jones; vice-presidents, Mrs G. Butler and Messrs S. Batchelor and D. Nesbit; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. Zwimpfer; club captain, Mr D. Checketts; women’s club captain, Miss A. Galt; vice-captain, Mr R. Maxwell; auditor, Mr A. W. Jones; delegates to Southland Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs Checketts and Zwimpfer; general committee, Mrs J. Hughes, Misses B. Morton and G. Hayden and Messrs A. H. Booth, R. G. Sleeman and K. Markham; selection committee, Messrs Checketts and Hughes and Miss Galt. Subscriptions were fixed at the same rates as last year: —Men, £l/7/6; women, £l. Congratulations were extended to Mr Checketts for his organizing work in top-dressing and preparing the courts. Opening day was fixed for next Saturday. AUSTRALIANS WIN AT LOS ANGELES (Received September 25, 10.10 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, September 25. First round matches in the Californian tennis championships resulted: A. K. Quist beat Marvin Carlock, 7-5, 6-2; H. O. Hopman beat L. Bond, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0; J. H. Crawford beat Mel Gallagher by default.
