SURPRISE PARTY AT KENNINGTON

MR AND MRS S. J. HENDERSON HONOURED

During the winter months Mr and Mrs S. J. Henderson have placed their residence at the disposal of the Women’s Institute for the holding of euchre parties as a means of augmenting the funds of the branch. On a recent evening a large party “invaded” the home of Mr and Mrs Henderson to present each of them with a gift as a small token of their appreciation. Mrs J. Collins, in presenting a handbag to Mrs Henderson on behalf of the members, made eulogistic reference to

the worth of their president, and her generosity in providing her home for social functions on so many occasions.

Mr J. Gollins presented Mr Henderson with a pipe on behalf of his friends. Mr and Mrs Henderson had done all in their power to entertain them, and it was due largely to their hospitality that the series of functions had been so successful.

On rising to respond the recipients were greeted with musical honours. Both Mr and Mrs Henderson said they were only too pleased to lend assistance to the members of the Women’s Institute in their endeavours to further such a worthy cause, and ■ expressed their deepest thanks for the gifts. The evening took the form of a euchre party, followed by musical games and community singing. The winners of the prizes were Mrs G. W 4 addell and Mr T. Cloughley. Supper was provided by the visiting women.
