MOTOR-CAR HIT BY EXPRESS

ACCIDENT AT GORE DRIVER HAS FORTUNATE ESCAPE The through express from Christchurch struck a motor-car at Gore about 8.45 o’clock last night and the driver of the vehicle had a fortunate escape from serious injury. The driver, A. C. Walker, of Ontario street, who had just crossed the Gore bridge, was travelling east along a by-road and when traversing the railway line his car was hit by the engine. The vehicle was dragged along the line for about 20 feet and was thrown against a fence on the south side of the road. The car was damaged beyond repair, but Walker suffered only superficial wounds. He was admitted to the Gore Hospital about 9.30 p.m. with cuts to the head and hands; his condition last night was satisfactory. The train was slightly delayed, but was only four minutes late in arriving at Invercargill.
