DUNEDIN HORSE PARADE

GOOD AGED STALLIONS DUNMORE SUPERB WINS CHAMPIONSHIP The annual parade of Clydesdale horses by the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held at Tahuna Park on Thursday, and although the entries were, on the whole, good, there was not the display of young stock and new blood which, year after year, have made this event one of particular interest to breeders (says The Otago Daily Times). Two and three-year-olds were very few, only a single entry being paraded in each class, but the aged and yearling classes were well filled. In the four years and over class seven horses were paraded, and among them were five stallions that have been prize-winners at previous parades, and in nearly every case these sires have left their mark on the heavy horse stock of the province. The winner of the championship and the Donald Reid Challenge Shield was Mr S. P. Johnston’s (Alma) imported ■stallion Dunmore Superb a previous champion and Wright, Stephenson Challenge Shield winner. Mr Andrew Grant won the Wright, Stephenson Shield with his imported horse, Strathore Streamline by Woodbank Majestic out of Lochrain Muriel. Mr Andrew Carruthers, the Ngapuna breeder, won a good yearling class with a stylish colt by that outstanding breeding horse Scotland’s Farewell. Mr John Young (Allanton) was second with a colt by McQuaid of Ochertyre, and another son of Scotland’s Farewell filled third place for Mr Carruthers. The judge, Mr W. J. Doak (Rakaia), said-that although entries were few in number, their quality was well up to the standard of the Dunedin parade. Although the two and three-year-olds were single entries, they would both have held their own against competition. The yearlings were all beasts of quality and would be heard of again in forthcoming shows. Between the first and second horses in the aged classes there was very little difference. The results of the judging were as follows:—

CLYDESDALE STALLIONS, four years or over. G. P. Johnston’s Dunmore Superb 1 Andrew Grant’s Strathore Streamline 2 D. S. Brown’s Verdlea Moonlight 3 CLYDESDALE STALLIONS, three years.
