• 1 ' DOMINION BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS ADDITIONS TO RULES ADOPTED The New Zealand boxing championships next year will be held in Auckland, this decision having been made at the annual conference of the New Zealand Boxing Association yesterday. Mr A. H. Courtis (Invercargill) presided over an attendance of delegates from all parts of the Dominion. A motion of sympathy with the. relations of William (“Billy”) Murphy, of Auckland, at one time featherweight champion of the world, was passed. The following officers were elected: President, Mr N. McLean (Auckland); vice-presidents, Messrs A. H. Courtis (Invercargill), F. Baillie (Greymouth); appeal committee, Messrs C. F. Sanders, V. R. Meredith, E. A. Craig (Auckland); members of council, Messrs J. R. Simpson, E. Blundell, E. A. Dawson, H. H. Sterling, C. E. Bridge, E. C. Magee (Wellington) and A. E. Parker (Dannevirke). A vote of thanks to Messrs D. R. Hoggard and B. A. Guise, of Wellington, retiring members of the council, was enthusiastically carried. The conference adopted the following additions to the rules: (1) Notwithstanding anything contained in any other rule, the council may of its own motion hold, when and in such manner as it shall think fit, an inquiry into any matter arising out of any contest, whether such contest shall have taken place or not, or into any matter arising out of the promotion of any contest or in any other way connected with or incidental to the sport of boxing or the administration thereof under these rules. (2) In any case in which the'council shall be satisfied that any person who is or may be subject to these rules has been guilty of betting on the result of any contest or of an offence under the rules, or has acted in a manner calculated to bring the sport of boxing into disrepute, the council may impose such penalty by way of admonishing, caution, suspension of rights or privileges, cancellation of, and disqualification from, membership of an association, disqualification from admission to any contest, fine not exceeding £5 in any case, withholding of payment of any portion of
any prize, and disqualification from boxing in any contest, or acting as a second, or in any capacity in connection with the conduct of any contest or the administration of the sport of boxing under these rules as the council may decide, in each case and such decision of the council shall be final. (3) Every person summoned by the council to appear and give evidence at any inquiry held under this rule shall comply with such summons, and if any such person, without reason which shall in the opinion of the council be sufficient, omit to comply with such summons, he may, in the discretion of the council, have'such penalty imposed on him as is specified in paragraph (2) of this rule. (4) The council may at any time before any prize is paid to any contestant direct that payment shall be withheld from such contestant pending further direction by the council, and the association concerned in any such case shall give effect to such direction.
