TODAY’S RECIPE

JEWISH CAKE

3 eggs. 7oz sugar. soz flour. | cup milk. A teaspoon soda. 1 teaspoon cream of tartar. 1 teaspoon cinnamon. 1 teaspoon mixed spice. 1 tablespoon butter.

Beat eggs till thick and lemon coloured. Add sugar gradually and continue beating till very stiff. Sift in flour and cream of tartar. Heat butter and milk. Dissolve soda and add to sponge mixture. Bake in sandwich tin in oven at 375 degrees F. for 25 minutes. Filling 4oz butter. loz sugar. 1 teaspoon gelatine. cup boiling water. Pinch salt. Pinch cream of tartar. i teaspoon vanilla. Dissolve gelatine in boiling water. Beat all ingredients with a dover beater till mixture is thick. Add chopped walnuts, dates cherries, ginger and raisins. Spread between layers and sprinkle top with icing sugar. SARAH.
