ELECTION LIKELY TO BE POSTPONED
(United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, September 12. It is now unlikely that the election for the Christchurch Tramway Board, set down for November next, will be held. Both the parties concerned, the Labour Party and the Citizens’ Association, have agreed that it would not be in the nubile interest to hold the election during the time of crisis. As the parties are agreed, it now remains the Government to take the necessary legislative action to postpone the election and extent the period of membership of the present personnel <■ 1 the board. ' The present members or the board are- Mr J. Mathison .'chairman), the Hon J K- Archer and Messrs R. M. Macfarlane, H. E. Denton, G. Manning, E. Parlane. J. Barr, W. J. Walter and A. A. McLachlan. With the exception ot Mr Walter (Independent) and Mr McLachlan (Citizens’ Association) all the members belong to' the Labour Party. Because of . his appointment as president of the Assessment Court, Mr McLachlan will not retain his seat on the board, and, in accordance with the agreement reached by the . two parties, he will be replaced by a member of the Citizens’ Association.
