BLUFF BOROUGH COUNCIL

NEW PEDESTRIAN CROSSING At the monthly meeting of the Bluff Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr J. Cameron) presided. Those present were Councillors A. E. Budd (DeputyMayor), T. F. Doyle, O. F. Metzger, W. P. Butler, J. Ballantyne, C. G. Pilcher, G. T. Randall, G. Muir and the town clerk, H. A. Ferguson. Cr L. G. Newman wrote apologizing for his absence. Before the general monthly business was discussed, a special statutory meeting was held by the council and the annual balance-sheet was formally confirmed.

A new pedestrian crossing is to be marked on Blackwater street at the intersection of Shannon street. It was pointed out that the crossing was a very dangerous one and during the bathing and rowing season it was quite a busy intersection. Traffic both to and from Bluff had little indication of

pedestrians stepping on to the road. A plan submitted by the Bluff Harbour Board for the drainage of the tankage area was inspected and discussed by the council, and it was decided that if found to be in order, it was to be signed and executed by the Mayor (Mr J. Cameron) and the town clerk. A letter was received from the Post and Telegraph engineer stating that numerous complaints had been received from radio listeners in Liffey street complaining of radio interference. The council’s electrical engineer was instructed to investigate the complaints. The secretary of the Southland Provincial Centennial Committee wrote saying that the council’s application for a subsidy from the centennial fund had been withdrawn. The council had intended making a motor camp as a centennial memorial, but the subsidy of £3 for £1 was too low and the council did not deem it worthwhile spending too much money on this venture. The monthly accounts amounting to £2674/3/7 were passed for payment
