EVENING OF SHORT TALKS

Last night the Southland branch of the Institute of Engineers held an evening of short talks by various members on problems encountered in routine work. The president, Mr G. R. Milward, presided. The following talks were given:— “Highway Transition Curves” (Messrs E. L. Robinson and H. Smith); “Cleaning and Reconditioning of Water Pipes” (Mr R. P. Fish); “Construction and Operation of a Boring Plant” (Mr A. Smillie); “Operation of a Ramming and Pile-Driving Machine” (Mr W. J. Tattersfield); “An Improvised Instrument for Calculating Areas” (Mr R. Watts); “Air-Raid Precautions From an Electrical Standpoint” (Mr W. H. Gregory); “Cleaning of Scale and Rust on Steel Reinforcement” (Mr J. B. Rowntree).
