COMMUNITY SING HELD

FUNDS FOR PRINCESS CARNIVAL

GOOD ATTENDANCE AT

TOWN HALL

Community singing is a rare form of entertainment in Bluff and the sing which was held in the town' hall on Thursday evening in aid of the Central “princess” for the Labour Party’s carnival attracted a good attendance. Conducted by Mr S, Kingston, of Invercargill, who had the assistance of several performers from the city, the programme went with a swing from start to finish. The Gaiety Dance Band played several popular selections.. Most of the songs which have achieved popularity at the regular community sings in other centres were sung and the audience entered into the singing with obvious enjoyment. The programme was interspersed with vocal and instrumental items. A cornet duet was played by Messrs E. Hunter and J. Storrie, and Mr Hunter contributed several humorous songs. Violin solos were played by Mr W. Bloy and Mr Kingston, gave an unusual descriptive version of the song “The Trumpeter.” A diversion was an exhibition of American tap-dancing by Miss N. Lee. The orchestra payed two popular overtures.

Mrs S. Kingston was the accompanist. After the community singing the hall was cleared for dancing. Mr Kingston acted as master of ceremonies and music was supplied by the orchestra. BAND OF HOPE
