INCREASE IN TAXI FARES UNLIKELY

POSITION IN WELLINGTON (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 4. Inquiries today suggest that it is'unlikely that there will be any immediate increase in taxi fares in Wellington as a result of the increase in the petrol tax. The manager of a leading taxi firm said it was expected that the additional cost to the industry in Wellington would amount to between £3OOO and £4OOO a year, but there was some opposition to passing this on to the public. He expressed the view that what was needed in Wellington was complete reorganization of the business to reduce overhead costs and give the public more efficient service.
