Equal parts of raw linseed oil, turpentine, and vinegar make an excellent mixture to remove heat-marks from a table. Rub in vigorously at odd moments day by day. The marks will disappear with perseverance, and the task may then be completed with furniture polish. When scaling fish first scald them and a frequently disagreeable task will not be a worry. To get the best results when fried onions are on the menu, first boil them for two or three minutes, according to size, before transferring them to the pan. Piercing peeled potatoes with a sharp instrument such as a fine steel skewer will make them floury when cooked.
