AUSTRALIAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP NEARLY FIFTY ENTRIES REJECTED MELBOURNE, August 3. Nearly 50 entries, including that of, Miss “Babe” Didrikson, the American woman professional, have been rejected for the Australian open golf championship to be played on the Royal Melbourne course on August 24, 25 and 26. The match committee in a statement said: “Because of the large number of entries received (183) the match committee of the Royal Melbourne Club decided to reject all entrants with handicaps of more than two from the standard scratch score or five from par. The entries accepted total 135. DRAW FOR WOMEN’S MATCH The following is the draw for a women’s golf match to be played at Queen’s Park tomorrow: Miss L. Curtis v. Miss L. McDonald; Miss A. Crowe v. Miss F. Hinchey; Miss V. Holdsworth v. Miss McCalman; Miss G. McKenzie v. Miss Melville; Miss Marshall v Miss Morton; Miss Turner v. Miss Crosbie; Miss K. Crowe v. Miss J. Jones CLAY BIRD SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIPS NOR’ni ISLAND MEETING ENDS (United Press Association) ' MASTERTON, August 3. The North Island clay bird championships were concluded at Masterton today. The 21 birds off 18 yards event was won by E. Sergeant (Dannevirke), after shooting off with J. W. McKenzie (Masterton), C. Benton (Otorohanga) and N. Prussing (Martinborough). MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING LADIES’ CLUB’S SCORES The Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club had its club shoot last right. Miss Gilfedder won the nightly handicap, trophy and Mrs Brosnan was the winner of the handicap trophy for last week. Mrs J. B. Doake won the McWilliam badge for the highest score off the rifle with a score of 78.5. The club thanked Mr Tansley for a cup he presented for competition. The scores were:—Mrs Doake 78.5, Mrs Robertson 76.5, Miss Scandrett 75.3, Miss Burdon 76.3, Miss T. James 75.4, Miss E. James 75.1, Miss Storrie 74.3, Mrs Pullar 74.3, Miss Jaquiery 74.1, Miss Grieber 73.2, Miss H. Robertson 73.1, Mrs Buttolph 72.2, Mrs Young 72.3, Mrs Lyall 73.2, Mrs V.
