Rather Changeable
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, August 3. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— South-easterly winds prevailing, mainly moderate but strong at times in exposed positions. Weather rather changeable, with occasional showers, but chiefly in coastal areas. Temperatures cold. Seas rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather for most part fair to fine; rather changeable, however, with some scattered showers in North Auckland and southern districts of the South Island. Temperatures cool, with widespread frosts. General situation.—An anti-cyclone covers the Eastern Tasman Sea, while depressions are located near Chatham Island and the Australian coast. Winds.—South-westerly to southerlies predominating, mostly light to moderate in force, but strong at times about Southland and Otago. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough on the Southland coast, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate and variable winds, with northerly directions later predominating. Seas moderate.
