FAREWELL PARTY AT TUATAPERE

BASKETBALL CLUB PAYS TRIBUTE On Thursday evening members of the Tuatapere Basketball Club and other friends gathered in Lawson’s hall to bid farewell to Miss Peggy Mclntyre, who leaves soon to take up a position on the staff of the Wallace hospital. Dancing was enjoyed, the music supplied by Mr R. Broomhall and Miss W. Hannan. Mr J. A. Forde, president of the Basketball Club, who acted as chairman, expressed regret at Miss Mclntyre’s departure and asked Miss J. Morris, captain of the A team, to make a presentation on behalf of the club as a token of their esteem. In doing so, Miss Morris stated that the guest of honour had always been willing to help the club and her services as a player and a worker had always been available.

On behalf of the Tuatapere Tennis Club Mr R. G. Smith also made a presentation to Miss Mclntyre, who had been a keen and willing member of that club.

Mr L, Shaw, president of the young people’s committee, also testified to the feeling of other friends in the district. He said that her family in a previous generation had supplied nurses who had given valuable services during the Great War. He hoped that their guest would never have to act in similar circumstances.

In reply, Miss Mclntyre said that she had always been glad to help with the various clubs and hoped that their success would continue. Although she was leaving the district it was not to go a great distance and she would have plenty of opportunities of seeing her old friends. She thanked those who had spoken so kindly of her and said she would need no reminder of her days in the district.

An enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Among those present were Mr and Mrs J. Mclntyre. Mesdames C. Payne, D. Pont, F. Thomson.
