WALLACE HOSPITAL BALL

FUNCTION ARRANGED BY NURSING STAFF One of the most successful social functions held in Riverton for some time was the ball organized by the nursing staff of the Wallace Hospital. Fully 400 people from all parts of the province accepted the invitation of the matron (Miss E. Gedney) and the staff. The Empire Theatre was decorated for the occasion with red and white streamers and clusters of greenery. Mr F. Davis (Invercargill) played supper extras and Messrs R. Dickson and S. L. McNeil carried out the duties of masters of ceremonies.

During the evening several novelty dances were held. Mrs Bickley and Mr W. Bickley were successful in winning a “lucky spot” waltz competition, while the “first on the floor” event was won by Miss D. Gag and Mr Graham Finlayson (Riverton). Members of the medical profession present were Dr E. M. Elder (Tuatapere), Dr E. S. Fossey and Mrs Fossey (Riverton) and Dr C. H. Gordon and Mrs Gordon (Riverton). Among others present were the following: Mesdames C. Haigh (Waipango), F. Bickley (Thornbury), G. D. Keeler (Riverton), P. A. Williams (Riverton), A. R.
