WOMEN BOWLERS EXCLUDED
NOT TO BECOME FULL MEMBERS OF CLUBS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 28. That no woman be allowed to become a full member of any ; club, or have voting power, or take part in any competitions controlled by the New Zealand Bowling Association was a motion carried by the council of the association at its annual meeting today.
The council had before it a recommendation from the half-yearly meeting that a law be framed dealing yvith the membership of women of affiliated bowling clubs. “I don’t think any women should have any vote or control in any men’s affairs in bowling in- New Zealand,” said Mr G. A. Nelson (Dunedin). Voices: Hear, hear. . A councillor: I don’t think they want it, Mr Nelson. “I want to make it definite,” said Mr Nelson. “But I am not against lady bowlers.” He pointed out that it affected even the election of councillors. Mr S. C. K. Smith (Southland): I strongly support Mr Nelson. Mr D. H. Thomson (North Otago) said that in the south, at least, women bowlers were not members of clubs, but had their own organizations. The motion that was carried was moved by. Mr Nelson..and seconded by Mr Smith.
