THE WEATHER
Mainly Fair To Cloudy
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, June 28. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Light to moderate and variable winds. A few scattered rains, but . weather mainly fair to cloudy. Moderate temperatures. Slight to moderate seas. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair on the east coast of the South Island, otherwise cloudy to overcast,, with scattered rain; more general rain, however, with mist in places, gradually extending from the north. Mild temperatures. General Situation.—Although pressure is still low to the south, a depression located to the north-west of the North Island is now beginning to control the meteorological situation. Winds—A temporarily weak southwesterly change possible in the south, otherwise north-easterly to northerly prevailing, strong at the Auckland peninsula and elsewhere light to moderate, but freshening. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough north of East Cape, otherwise slight to moderate, but rising somewhat north of Westport and Kaikoura; eastern Tasman Sea, winds rather variable with moderate northerlies predominating at first with a change to south-westerlies advancing slowly from the west Seas moderate.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was overcast but mild. A few light showers fell during the day. At one o’clock this morning the sky was overcast and a light westerly wind was blowing. The barometer readings for the past three mornings have been as follows:
