COUNTRY SOCIAL

PREWEDDING PARTY WELL-WISHERS GATHER AT MIMIHAU HALL The Mimihau hall was packed with well-wishers on Saturday evening, when, in view of her marriage this week, the residents of Wyndham Ridges and friends further afield held a gift evening in honour of Miss Eleanor Arnott. Th? time was passed mainly in dancing. Messrs C. Frame and J. Crosbie were masters of ceremonies. At intervals items were given by Mrs T. Skinner, Misses C. Traynor and M. Frame, Messrs R. McDonald and J. Cusack. Mrs F. J. Smart was accomPa After supper, Mr F. Diack said the big gathering showed in no uncertain manner the popularity of the guest of

the evening, which he claimed was thoroughly deserved. She had been brought up and educated in the district and had always been ready to help any community effort with enthusiasm. On behalf of those present, Mr Diack asked Miss Arnott to accept the big array of gifts as a token of their esteem and good wishes for her future happiness. Mrs E. Rabbidge, president of the Wyndham branch of the Women’s

Division of the Farmers’ Union, presented Miss Arnott with a gift from the members of the branch. She had been a member of the committee during the past six years and in such capacity had worked hard in the interests of the branch, doing her part in a cheerful and willing manner. It was interesting to recall that the inaugura-

tion of the Wyndham branch had been fostered by their guest’s father and uncle. Since then the affairs of the branch had steadily prospered until today they had a membership of 70. Mrs D. D. Hopkins paid a tribute to the guest of honour’s prowess on the hockey field. She wished her and her future husband good luck and happiness in the future. Speaking on behalf of the district tennis club, Mr W. Frame, jun., said Miss Arnott’s impending departure from the district would be a distinct loss both from the playing and social points of view. He had pleasure in asking her to accept a bronze fireside companion. Others speakers were Messrs J. Dooley, P. Hopkins, T. Skinner and E. Frame.

Mr Herron thanked those present for their gifts and good wishes. He thanked those responsible for organizing the evening and the performers, also the members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union for their presence. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs T. Skinner, Mr and Mrs J. Mc-
