AMUSEMENT PARK BOOKINGS
ENTERTAINMENTS FOR N.Z. EXHIBITION (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 23. Amusement park bookings for side shows and games of skill at tire centennial exhibition have closed, the park now being fully taken up, according to Mr Henry Seff, Playland Concessionary Company representative. He said he was satisfied that he had arranged for a collection of entertainments that would give the New Zealand public all they could wish for, 90 per cent, being entirely new to New Zealand. Because of pressure of space, wind resistance and other reasons, it has been decided to abandon the idea of erecting a huge steel tower with searchlights to act as a signpost to the playland. A shipment of redwood for the track of the “main ride” arrived in Wellington recently, and the construction of the track would be completed by the end of the next week, he said. The ride would then await only the elevating machinery and trolleys which were expected soon from England to be ready for use.
The “Jack and Jill,” another mountain of tubular steelwork, now awaited little except elevators and machinery. These fittings would probably not be installed until near the exhibition opening, as they would not take long to put in. The “Crazy House,” expected to be a popular attraction and the “Bloody Tower,” of the Tower of London, which would house a large collection of replicas of Crown jewels from all over Europe, were the next devices to be put in hand. Indeed, work had already begun on them and they would not take long to erect. Mr Seff said his men were working well within the time schedule and there would be no difficulty in having playland ready by the opening date.
