ATTENDANCES AT MEETINGS
DELEGATES TO BE PRESENT DECISION BY FARMERS’ UNION EXECUTIVE The question of reducing the attendance at meetings of the Southland executive of the Farmers’ Union was discussed in committee at a meeting of the executive yesterday. For a number of years the executive members, numbering 22, have been supplemented by delegates from branches and the total attendance has on occasions exceeded 50. At the recent provincial conference a remit was passed recommending that the meetings be limited to the elected executive except at quarterly meetings which delegates could attend. After a discussion yesterday it was decided not to adopt the recommendation of the conference, but to continue as before. Standing committees for the year were appointed as follows:— Organization and Finance. —Messrs J. Gordon, R. Sim, W. B. Hopcroft, D. H. O’Brien, G. Stevenson, S. C. Bowmar, A. R. Johnston and G. A. Hamilton.
