SOUTHDOWN SHEEP FOR ARGENTINA

SHIPMENT OF ATTRACTIVE SPECIMENS

- By the Port Sydney which left Wellington on Friday of last week, Dalgety and Company Limited, shipped a very, choice selection of Southdowns to start three new studs of this breed in the Argentine. They were carefully selected by Mr Ernest St.C. Haydon, head of the company’s stud stock department and were for orders taken by him, when he was in the Argentine last year judging various sheep breeds at the Palermo , Show.

Senor Abel Saint, hea<J of the great chocolate manufacturers in South America, who recently purchased a very fine property close to Buenos Aires, requested Mr Haydon to obtain for him the foundation of a stud flock to enable him to exhibit the progeny at the Argentine shows in the years to come. For Senor Saint, 10 shearling ewes have been selected from the Canterbury (N.Z.) Seed Company and mated to a special sire. The ram for Senor Saint has been selected from the well-known flock of Mr J, Knight, Feilding.

For the Sue. de Pedro Haugaard, 10 specially mated shearling ewes have beep selected from Mr C. Vile’s flock at Bulls. The dispersal sale of Mr Vile’s Pukenui flock in the year 1929 was one of the greatest sales ever held in this Dominion. Some few years ago Mr Vile again started to breed Southdowns and made special selections of a wonderful type of sheep. Today, Mr Vile possesses an even flock of outstanding sheep and one that is worthy of carrying on the great Pukenui name. The ram going forward for Sue. Pedro Haugaard has been selected from the Canterbury (N.Z.) Seed Company. For Senor Abel Basso Dastugue, five shearling ewes in lamb have been secured from Mr James Knight’s Matatua flock. Also, rams from Mr A. W. Adam’s Pukeura flock, Sheffield, and Mr L. D. Adams’ Parenga flock Sheffield.
