THE WEATHER

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, June 19. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by . the meteorological office, Wellington:— Moderate to fresh north-easterly to north-westerly winds. Weather for the most part fair, but becoming unsettled later in the west Cold temperatures. Moderate seas. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather continuing fair in the southern half of the South Island: otherwise dull and in places misty, with’ general rain; heavy falls probable in the North Island, but conditions improving later in the far north; cold in the south, mild in the north, but becoming cooler tomorrow General Situation.—A fairly deop depression is advancing slowly from the west on to the North Island, and a less intense one is located in the south Tasman Sea. Winds. —Moderate to strong easterly to northerly, reaching gale force in some exposed positions north of Nelson and Marlborough;, changing later to south-westerly in the north and to south-easterly in the central portion of the country. Seas—New Zealand waters, rough north of East Cape and rising north of Greymouth and Kaikoura; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasmau Sea, moderate northerly winds and moderate seas in the southern portion, otherwise strong easterly to northerly winds and rough seas, but a change to southwesterly winds advancing from the west.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine. For the most part the sky was free of clouds, but a cold atmosphere marred the sunshine during the afternoon. At one o’clock this morning the weather was calm, cold and clear. The barometer readings for this morning, Monday and Saturday are as follows:— This morning 29.491n5. Monday 29.81in5.
