STORMY WEATHER IN AUCKLAND
HEAVY FALL OF RAIN (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 19. Driving rain and a strong and gusty wind gave Aucklanders today one of the most uncomfortable days of the winter. The fall of rain for the 24 hours ended at midnight tonight was more than two inches. This was among the heaviest falls this winter and resulted in the average for the month of June of 4.95 in, being exceeded. Outdoor work generally was at a standstill, and there was practically no waterfront activity at Auckland and Onehunga. Eight overseas ships and a big number of inter-colonial and coastal vessels lay idle at Auckland, and no work was done on three ships at Onehunga, Two ships cleared port at Auckland early today, but all other sailings were cancelled, one overseas and eight coastal vessels being affected.
