SEASONAL RECESSION AFTER MARCH “The usual seasonal recession which normally becomes evident after the end of March is reflected in the export figures for the month of April,” states the Monthly Abstract of Statistics. “The total value of merchandise exported during the month of April was £4,933,095, a decrease of £2,749,167 below the total for March, but an increase of £385,937 above the figure for April 1938. “Imports during April amounted to £3,777,628, a decrease of £577,891 below the total for March, and of £677,368 as compared with April 1938. The result of the month’s external trading in commodities was an excess of exports amounting to £1,155,467, as compared with similar balances of £3,326,743 and £92,162 for March 1939 and April 1938 respectively.”
