CHIEF OF ALLIED ARMIES
GAMELIN PROBABLE CHOICE WESTERN FRONT IN EVENT OF WAR (Independent Cable Service) LONDON, June 7. Well-informed circles in London and Paris believe that Marshal Gamelin’s appointment as a Marshal of France and General-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is a prelude to his appointment as Com-mander-in-Chief of the allied armies on the Western Front in the event of war. British military experts are convinced that he is most suited to take charge on the Continent. In view of the strengthening of the perce front against aggression importance is attached to yesterday’s meeting between the Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) and the Foreign Secretary (Viscount Halifax) and the Polish Ambassador to London (Count Raczynski), when it was reported that technical progress, including military, economic and financial aspects, had been discussed. The. recent visit to London of the Turkish officers headed by General Kaiazim Or Bey will permit preliminary Anglo-Turkish technical discussions in anticipation of a definite agreement for which the recent exchange of assurances prepared the way.
Many technical problems will .also be discussed with Marshal Gamelin.
