GERMANS ORDER JEWS TO LEAVE
MANY WITHOUT POLISH CITIZENSHIP BERLIN, June 8. Several thousand Polish Jews have been ordered to leave Germany voluntarily or they will be taken across the frontier forcibly. The time limit varies from two to five weeks. The majority are-in a dilemma, because they have been in Germany so long that they have forgone their Polish citizenship. Recalling the expulsions at the end of October, Poland has warned Germany that new expulsion attempts will result in retaliation. One thousand prominent Germans throughcmt Poland are reported already to have been arrested under the threat to Germany that if the Jews are expelled they will be similarly treated. Jews of Polish descent spent last night in sheds and railway carriages on the German-Polish frontier—unwanted by Germany and disowned by Poland, states a message from Warsaw. The latter claims that they forfeited their nationality when they failed to register as Poles during the Nazi round-up last November. The German Peasant Party in three German newspapers published a declaration of its loyalty to the country of its members’ residence. It declares that the interests of the German minority completely agree with those of Poland.
