CARS COLLIDE AT WINTON

SMALL CHILD INJURED A car coming out of a side street on to the Great North road at Winton on Tuesday evening caused two cars going in opposite directions to collide and resulted in a 15 months old child, daughter of Mr and Mrs Moylan, of South Hillend, suffering a severe wound to her tongue, necessitating the insertion of several stitches. She also suffered a cut lip and a bruise on her forehead. Her condition last evening was satisfactory. The child was with her parents and Mrs Moylan suffered a sprained ankle and several bruises. The driver of the other car involved in the collision was Arthur James Hunt, of Invercargill, who suffered a broken thumb and general bruises. The accident occurred at the Grange street intersection. Hunt, who was driving north, had swerved to avoid the' car coming out of the street, which proceeded in a northerly direction and thus collided with the car driven by Moylan, which was going south. Both cars were extensively damaged. LOCAL BODY OFFICERS IN ACCIDENT CAR LEAVES ROAD ON BEND (United Press Association) OPOTIKI, June 7. Early last evening a car when negotiating a sharp bend on the Maraenui Hill left the road and dropped eight feet, the three occupants being injured. They were Mr W. A. Joult (county chairman), Mr W. Upton (engineer) and’Mr J. T. Marry (clerk) and all were brought to hospital suffering from concussion, cuts and abrasions. The party had attended the opening of the new coast bridge. An elderly woman, Mrs Catherine Pryce, was admitted to hospital last evening with a fracture at the base of the skull, sustained when she was struck by a car at Mosgiel. MOTOR-CYCLIST SUFFERS FATAL INJURIES (United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 7. Leslie Walter James Murray, aged 20, of Ngaere, died almost immediately from injuries received when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction. Murray was thrown to the roadway and suffered a fractured skull. Tire car was driven by Miss Wilhelmina Schumatcher.
