OBITUARY

MR H. W. RANCE The death has occurred at Invercargill of Mr Henry William Rance, eldest son of Mrs Elizabeth Rance and the late Mr John Rance, of Waimatuku. Born in 1913, Mr Rance attended the Waimatuku school and was one of the most promising pupils on the roll. He secured his proficiency and the dux prize in 1925. Mr Rance received four years’ secondary education at the Riverton District High School. In 1929 he matriculated and won the dux medal. He spent a number of years on the home farm before taking up dairying in the Lochiel district. He was a director of the Lochiel dairy factory as well as a supplier. Recently, he disposed of his property there and returned to Waimatuku to take up sheep farming. Mr Rance took a keen interest in the different activities of the district. He was a member of the Waimatuku tennis and basketball clubs and was a willing helper at all social functions.
