CHANGES IN FRENCH ARMY CONTROL

GENERAL GAMELIN TO BE MARSHAL PARIS, June 6. The French Cabinet, with the President (M. Albert Lebrun) presiding, appointed General Gamelin General-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, with the title of Marshal. Rear-Admiral Darlan was appointed Admiral of France in full command of the Navy, and General Vuillemin was appointed Air Marshal. The Cabinet approved of decrees to bring Le Havre and Bordeaux under military control in the event of an emergency and to enable more strict control over the mercantile marine. Credits were voted to build up additional war reserves.
