WOMEN’S DIVISION

THORNBURY BRANCH At the June meeting of the Thornbury branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Mrs Linscott presided over a good attendance of members and extended a welcome to a new member. The roll call was an impromptu speech of not more than two minutes, the subjects being drawn by lot. Competitions resulted as follows: Hand-worked handkerchief, Mrs J. Hamilton 1,2 and 3; fudge cake, Mrs J. Haywood 1; best bloom, Miss M. McLean 1, Mrs Cameron and Mrs J. McLean 2 equal. A lecture and demonstration on methods of checking haemorrhages by Dr Gordon, of Riverton, was followed with close attention; a vote of thanks was accorded to the lecturer. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Haywood, J. Hamilton, J. McLean.
